AODD Pumps: A Durable Choice for the Abrasive Ceramics Industry

The ceramics market covers everything from glass to pottery to cement. Regardless of the end ceramic product being manufactured, this industry has one common challenge: highly viscous and abrasive materials as part of the manufacturing process.

The Toughest Pumps for the Most Abrasive Slips, Slurries & Glazes

SANDPIPER air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps can handle these harsh applications without common failure modes, including air valve breakdown or stalling, check ball abrasive wear and solids which cause the pump to clog. Utilizing SANDPIPER’s proven pump design allows you to experience more uptime and consistent product quality in these high-viscosity, high-head pressure applications. Additionally, SANDPIPER has pioneered improved designs that minimize air consumption while providing maximum flow performance, reducing overall costs and increasing efficiency.

COMMONLY USED AODD CERAMICS APPLICATIONS

  • Loading/unloading transfer: critical transfer applications such as bulk storage tanks, day tanks, aging tanks, slip transfer and recirculation and tanker/railcar unloading
  • Filter press: demanding filter press operations to remove particulates from ceramic processing waste before transferring water and ceramic for reuse
  • Mixing/batching/coating: challenging ceramic production requiring batch-to-batch consistency of slips and glazes, as well as spray glaze application to the finished product
  • Molding & casting processing: essential pumping operations to transport and inject slip into molds, as part of gravity-fed and high-pressure systems
  • Wastewater & sump treatment: vital removal of unwanted water throughout the facility including efficient dewatering sumps often containing oil, slip and ceramic debris
  • Utility (Portable): General facility transfer to load/unload barrels and totes
