OPTIMIZE PERFORMANCE WITH SANDPIPER AIR-OPERATED DOUBLE-DIAPHRAGM PUMP ACCESSORIES

SANDPIPER offers a variety of genuine accessories for AODD pumps, including leak detectors, electronic speed controllers and water separators.

Pump Leak Detection

SANDPIPER leak detection products allow customers to monitor their pump’s diaphragm integrity through visual, electronic or mechanical leak detection systems. Leak detection products are beneficial and recommended when pumping hazardous or costly fluids.

When used in conjunction with SANDPIPER’s exclusive containment-duty pumps, leak detection accessories let the user know when a pump has failed, while also containing the leak within the pump itself. Once alerted, the user can then repair the pump without loss of product or product spillage.

Visual Leak Detection

Visual leak detection equipment consists of clear sight tubes that allow customers to accurately identify if a diaphragm is ruptured by simply inspecting the exterior of their pump. The visual leak detection option is exclusive to SANDPIPER’s containment-duty pump models, which utilize a containment chamber filled with an inert driver fluid.

This driver fluid simultaneously fills the clear sight tubes and is displaced by system fluid if the pumping diaphragm is breached. The visual difference between the driver fluid and system fluid promptly alerts the customer that a diaphragm failure has occurred.

Electronic Leak Detection

Electronic leak detection equipment allows users to remotely monitor their pump’s diaphragm integrity using a modular control and two detection probes. The electronic leak detection system senses pumped liquid entering either the inert fluid-filled spill containment chambers of the pumps or the inner chambers of standard pumps by detecting a difference in the fluids’ dielectric constants.

Electronic leak detection is available in both AC- and DC-voltage options. View the Electronic VAC Leak Detection Manual here and the Electronic VDC Leak Detection Manual here.

Mechanical Leak Detection

Mechanical leak detection equipment consists of a pneumatic valve that opens in the event of a diaphragm failure, which in turn activates a customer-supplied solenoid signal (or similar device).

The normally-open mechanical leak detection valve is held closed by an O-ring that is chemically incompatible with the process fluid. In the event of a diaphragm failure, the process fluid will encounter and chemically attack the O-ring. Upon O-ring failure, the valve will open and send the pneumatic signal.

While mechanical leak detection is reliable, it does not provide the customer with an instantaneous notification like visual or electronic leak detection options.

Additional Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm Pump Accessories

Pulse Output Interface Kit

Offered in a wide variety of sizes and voltages, these controls interface with the SANDPIPER Batch Controller or the customer’s controls (PLCs). The Pulse Output Interface Kit is designed for easy field installation and also available factory-installed on new pumps.

The Pulse Output Interface Kit mounts on the pump and provides electrical pulses to operate the SANDPIPER Batch Control/Stroke Counter or a customer-supplied control. These units create an electrical interface between the control and the air-powered pump.

Each pump stroke generates a signal through a proximity sensor (PNP) on either end of the air valve. As the air valve reciprocates back and forth during pump operation, targets on either end of the spool activate their respective proximity sensors. Each sensor signals the control to register one count on the stroke counter/batch control unit. This method provides a positive signal for every pump stroke, but with very few wearing parts.

Air Line Solenoid Valve

SANDPIPER’s Air Line Solenoid Valves provide automatic on/off operation for AODD pumps and other air-driven equipment. These valves enable the customer to remotely control the on/off operation of their pneumatic equipment via a variety of electronic signal options.

The 110/120 VAC and 220/240 VAC (50/60 hertz) kits are designed to operate in conjunction with SANDPIPER’s Stroke Counter/Batch Control unit or customer’s controls (PLCs). The 12 VDC and 24 VDC kits are designed to operate exclusively with customer-supplied controls.

Electronic Speed Control

SANDPIPER’s Electronic Speed Control System is engineered to provide accurate control of variable flow rates, from zero flow to maximum. This unit provides the customer with the option to remotely adjust their pump’s speed and flow via the potentiometer on the control box or a 4-20mA signal.

This accessory is ideal for applications that require incremental remote adjustments that can’t be satisfied by the on/off operation of standard air line solenoid valves.

Stroke Counter/Batch Control

The SANDPIPER Stroke Counter/Batch Control System offers an interfaceable electronic control to program repetitive diaphragm pump operations when used in conjunction with a SANDPIPER Pulse Output Interface Kit and an Air Line Solenoid Valve. This system enables customers to program and dispense predetermined amounts of product, making it ideal for dosing and batching applications with 1-3% accuracy.

This unit operates by sending an electronic AC signal to the normally-closed air line solenoid valve. This prompts the valve to open and supply compressed air to the pump. As the pump begins to operate, the Pulse Output Interface Kit registers the number of strokes the pump has performed and communicates the information back to the stroke counter/batch control unit. Once the programmed stroke count has been achieved, the AC signal powering the air line solenoid valve is ended. This closes the valve and halts the pump.

Water Separator

Diaphragm pumps are powered by compressed air. Air leaving compressors is often wet–this can damage and/or shorten the life of downstream equipment and the only way to alleviate this issue is to remove the moisture.

SANDPIPER’s point-of-use water separator is designed to remove 99% of the water, rust and other contaminants commonly present in compressed air lines. The clean, dry air delivered by the units enhances the life and performance of pneumatically driven equipment. Interested in learning more about SANDPIPER's water separator? Air Wear Kits

SANDPIPER offers Complete Air Kits as well as smaller kits called Air Wear Kits. These kits are available for more pump models. View the Air Wear Kits Flyer to learn more.
